Building Freedom
"Bread, Freedom, Human Dignity" these were, still are, and always will be the people's demands and with
these three words the people began their own revolution to demand their rights for the first time, those were the words that kept the protesters fighting for their freedom, these words were their armor against the brutality of the police forces, and these words will be the cornerstone for building the freedom of our country and its people.
A year had passed since these words were first spoken, many positives had been achieved but mostly negatives were being repeated!!
Let's just assess the situation since the resignation of Hosni Mubarak and his regime till the 25th of January 2012.
The positives we gained as Egyptians from the 25th of January revolution were that we regained our lost dignity inside our country and also outside, everybody now is seeing the Egyptians as a source of pride, we
were the only people who could manage to maintain the revolution as peaceful as possible, we were able to hold our parliamentary elections with great transparency and objectivity, Egyptians were able to choose their representatives with no pressure from any political power, it was a proof that Egyptians were ready for democracy.
But on the other side there were many negatives repeated, again we were back to the rule of the military regime, Mubarak's trial was continuously delayed, the corruption is still deep-rooted in all the governmental organizations and specially the police forces.
So now what is the solution, are we going to repeat this same cycle forever? Won't we ever see Egypt young and strong as we've always dreamed?
I guess the answer lies inside each and every one of us ![]()
Within this year we have learned how to defend our rights and the ethics of protesting and we should continue that. We've learned that whenever we feel injustice and oppression we should object. We've learned that the beauty of Egypt lies in the diversity of its people and how they complete each other.
If we retrieved the spirit of Tahrir square in its early days, when there was no difference between a liberal girl
and a member of the Muslim brotherhood, when all what we cared about was the benefit of our country and not the benefit of a political party or a certain ideology, then we can retrieve our freedom that was a gift of God and the people who paid their blood in Tahrir square.
Freedom is not easily gained and preserving it is not an easy task at all, we paid our lives and blood for it, some of us lost their eyes for their freedom, and they breathed the air of it for a while and we cannot take that from them now, our revolution should continue, we should get rid of the REGIME and not the people representing the regime, when that happens we could proudly say that our revolution was really successful.
