“Before 25Jan was something and after it is totally another thing”. That was what students at Cairo University, faculty engineering proved last week.

Magnology had a great honor to cover such a big event by all the categories and activities at the faculty. For the first time they all cooperate towards a better place and they all believe that they will no more wait for change, they will do it themselves.

An overview:

The idea was generated when some students of the faculty of engineering Cairo University decided to make something to help in changing their community “their faculty”. So they decided that cleaning the faculty is the first step, and their target was not only to clean the faculty, but to raise some values to keep it clean of every bad thing as well.

How was the campaign started?

It was started with an event on facebook asking people to join them, and they received great enthusiasm from students. Then they went to the university administration to show the idea and get the approvals to start the Implementations. The university administration agreed and provided lots of facilities, as well as they contributed with 3000 L.E for this campaign.
“PACHIN” Paints Company also funded the event with some paints and equipments.

The most interesting thing about the campaign was that the great integration between all of student activities and the student union to make something new, useful and effective.

The high board of the event contained one of the high board members from each activity, They met together to put the plans and set the rules to Guarantee the success of the campaign.

Work steps:

The plan was put as follows:

First, there was a certain number of organizers needed to organize the volunteers, each organizer was responsible for number of volunteers, the plan was divided to two main axes:

 The first was cleaning the buildings of the faculty, the lectures halls and sections.

The second was painting the pavement of the faculty, painting the parking lines and drawing traffic signs on the streets of the faculty. Not only that but also making certain buckets for cans, papers and other trashes as a step to be used in recycling issues.

  On Sunday, there was a meeting for the organizers to represent the plan and the job they  will do.

On Tuesday, every body was on time at the point of gathering, waiting for volunteers to start working. At 9:00 a.m. there were more than 600 volunteers ready to start cleaning, painting and renewing their lovely faculty.

 Most of  the volunteers knew about the campaign through the facebook event, and others knew about it during making it at the faculty by chance and decided to join the campaign. It was a great inspiring outlook to see everybody working allover the faculty with full enthusiasm to make the place better and cleaner than before.

During the day, the organizers and the volunteers were Careful to keep the spirit up; they had many photos to keep this day unforgettable memory in their minds. The day was more interesting when Dr. Hanafy El Zohery and many others doctors were among the students to encourage them.
